I was reminded somewhat of a cross between The Pixies and Cracker, though that's not necessarily the best description of their sound. There's definitely an element of dreamy shoegaze in their songs, but with an unexpected edge and a hint of classic rock to ground things.
They don't have any recorded material yet, but if you get the chance to see them live I highly recommend it - you won't be disappointed. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some Bay Area dates from them, but I would not be opposed to returning to Sacramento to see them again.
I'm not going to beat around the bush or be coy about it - The Common Men very quickly became one of my favorite bands after I was introduced to them by a friend (with obviously excellent taste in music - thanks, Dennis!).
Guitarist/singer Kevin Common performs fearlessly and without pretension, effortlessly coaxing his guitar into strange and wonderful new territories. His compelling vocals combine with layered synth, noise, and driving bass and percussion to create a sonic wall that can be felt as much as heard.
