Pets plowed through a solid, energetic set of buzzed-out, rowdy garage rock which brought to mind a more danceable Pavement, plus a bit of The Pixies.
With three - yes, 3 - guitarists (one of which gave some assist with drums and manned the keyboard as well), a bassist and a drummer, their sound is nothing short of full while never becoming messy or confused.
Buzzmutt create a sort of "aural fixation" informed by bluesy, guitar-driven psychedelia which is thoroughly modern while still giving a salute to the past. Each song was distinct and unique, and the band performed as a single unit while still retaining a sense of the individual. The only thing really lacking, in my opinion, was interaction with the crowd; the show was great, but the experience felt disconnected and isolated in a way...not necessarily a terrible thing, but a strange thing indeed.
ALL ABOUT ROCKETS
The AAR sound is a little hard to describe and really needs to be experienced to be fully understood - in other words... well, I don't have the words. Joseph (bass) and John (guitar) take turns with vocals, adding depth and texture, and the dreamy layers of guitar are transporting.
